Armenia and Russia sign agreement on financing development projects

YEREVAN, September 22. /ARKA/. Armenia and Russia signed an agreement in Yerevan on September 20 on financing development projects. The agreement was signed within the framework of an Armenian –Russian business forum by Armenia’s Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan, Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Development Corporation (VEB.RF) Daniil Algulyan and the Executive Director of the Development and Investments Corporation of Armenia Artur Badalyan.

Kerobyan said: "We think that now, when new projects appear, it will be easier for us to negotiate funding sources with such powerful partners as VEB.RF."

VEB.RF Deputy Chairman Daniil Algulyan said that the state corporation has been cooperating with the Republic of Armenia for many years. ‘A large number of projects have been implemented on an individual basis, and now we want to put this interaction on a systemic basis,’ he said.

"The fact is that the Republic of Armenia is a very important economic partner for us in the framework of the economic integration process; therefore, the creation of such a comprehensive approach to interaction will undoubtedly help increase our foreign trade turnover, increase investment and help institutional interaction," Algulyan said.

He added that currently an intensive process of improving the system of development institutions is underway in the Russian Federation and that the Russian side would like to offer its Armenian partners all the available opportunities and developments, which cover such areas as urban economy, innovation, energy and the environment, which can improve the quality of life in both countries.

According to him, the Russian side has a large number of interesting ideas to cooperate with Armenian partners.

"It was surprising to me how much interest a discussion of the urban economy aroused: we spoke about the renewal of urban transport, creation and management of new urban systems. There are quite a lot of new interesting urban projects in Armenia and it would be interesting for us to participate in them," Algulyan stressed. ...

The purpose of the agreement is to strengthen and develop financial and economic cooperation between the two countries. Joint expert assessments and analysis will be carried out to identify the factors that ensure the growth of the economies of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Armenia. -0—
