YEREVAN, June 1. /ARKA/. A set of amendment to the Law on Fodder, passed by Armenia's National Assembly in the second and final reading today, regulates the use of antibiotics as fodder additives.
The passage of the amendments is prompted by the fact that use of antibiotics in agriculture was not regulated. They are widely used in animal husbandry to prevent diseases, as well as stimulate growth, which causes the development of drug resistance in humans. Under the amendments, use of antibiotics as fodder additives is banned.
According to changes, incorporated in the amendments between the first and second readings, use of drugs as fodder additives is punishable by a fine to the tune of 100 minimum wage (100 thousand drams), and repeated violation during the year will result in a fine of 200 minimum wages (200 thousand drams) ($1 - 483.91 drams). -0-
