YEREVAN, October 17. /ARKA/. The Armenian side temporarily suspends its activity in the Armenian-Turkish Business Development Council, chairman  of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Armenia, co-chairman of the Armenian-Turkish Business Development Council Arsen Ghazaryan said in a statement.

"Today, when the military-political leadership of Turkey again follows an openly hostile and genocidal policy towards the Armenian people, when it openly incites and carries out military intervention in Azerbaijan's attempts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict by force, supplying Azerbaijan with weapons, military experts and hired terrorists, as co-chairman of the Armenian side I announce the temporary suspension of our activity in  the Armenian-Turkish Business Development Council," he said.

At the same time, Ghazaryan called on Armenian business community and relevant government departments to temporarily suspend the import of all Turkish products to Armenia.

The goal of the Armenian-Turkish Business Development Council, which has been operating since 1997, was to defuse the historical tension between the parties by activating economic ties, helping to create a favorable atmosphere for establishing good-neighborly ties.

Business people on both sides have made a lot of efforts to establish constructive dialogue and economic cooperation, each time, however, facing various obstacles and destructive behavior of the Turkish authorities.

In a related development, Armenia's Ministry of Economy has drafted a bill on a 6-month embargo on the import of goods of Turkish origin into the country. -0-
