Construction of AREAL Linac to cost 6.5 million euros

YEREVAN, September 12. /ARKA/. The cost of AREAL linac that is to be commissioned in Armenia as part of CANDLE project in 2013 is 6.5 million euros, of which 5.5 million are donations from private persons, according to Samvel Harutyunian, chairman of the State Science Committee of the Education and Science Ministry. He said 95% of the equipment was also donated.

CANDLE (Center for the Advancement of Natural Discoveries Using Light Emission) is a project to create a source of synchrotron radiation of the third generation. CANDLE project will create an opportunity to conduct advanced basic and applied research in various fields of science. 

The project is implemented in cooperation with the German Center DESY, Swiss PSI, Stamford SLAG center and Novosibirsk Institute of Nuclear Physics in Russia. 

Harutyunyan said a number of agreements were signed with different computer centers, and the construction of the accelerator was underway. He also said Armenia has an agreement with Russia on cooperation in the CANDLE project and will negotiate this also with the European Union and China. -0-
