YEREVAN, January 30. / ARKA /. The Armenian government has earmarked 8.4 million drams today for Grant Thornton audit firm to conduct an examination of a government project designed last year for trout farming in Lake Sevan.
The amount of investments necessary to restore the reserve of trout in the lake is estimated at 66 billion drams. The project is to be accomplished in 2023.
The government is to invest 24.9 billion drams into the project until 2018. Some 75 % of products -fresh, frozen, canned and smoked trout -will be exported. The program envisages an increase in commercial fishing of trout in the lake up to 50 thousand tons per year in 10 years.
The project is coordinates by a newly created Fund for Recovery of Reserves of Trout and Fish Farming in Lake Sevan. When the designed capacity of 50,000 tons per year is achieved the Fund is expected to earn 23 billion drams (about $ 56 million) a year.
The proceeds will be directed to further advancement of the project, and later to solution of environmental problems of the lake. -0-
