YEREVAN, December 15. /ARKA/. The development of a feasibility study of Gyumri Dry Port project has reached the final stage, Charles Malas, an advisor to Armenian Economy Minister said on Friday.
According to him, the Dutch company MTBS, selected to prepare the study is to submit it to the State Investment Committee by December 22, 2023. The advisor expressed hope that the Committee will approve the project by the end of the year.
"After that, the operator of the Dry Port will be selected. A number of foreign companies, including from the Middle East, have shown interest in the project, «Malas said at a meeting of ministers of landlocked developing countries held in Yerevan.
According to him, the "dry port" will be an ideal solution for the development of trade in the area, which has the status of a free economic zone. It is planned to create an entire industrial park, which will be attractive for foreign investors, particularly for pharmaceutical and IT enterprises.
"The project will also diversify trade and turn Armenia's Shirak region into an industrial zone. Gyumri is a good cluster where transportation hubs intersect. There are many opportunities for transportation of goods there. That is its distinctive feature and charm.," the advisor said.
The Dry Port will be adjacent to both the Shirak International Airport and the railway station and the North-South transportation corridor. It will include the airport as a free economic zone, distribution centers (hubs), small and medium enterprises, light industry enterprises, production bases and an international food market. --0--
