Italian Renco to build power-generating unit in Yerevan

The Armenian government on Thursday approved the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Italian Renco construction company that will build a new power –generating unit in Yerevan.
YEREVAN, November 19. /ARKA/. The Armenian government on Thursday approved the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Italian Renco construction company that will build a new power –generating unit in Yerevan.
Energy and natural resources minister Yervand Zakharyan said the power-generating unit with 234 MW capacity is planned to be built near the Yerevan thermal power station. He said Renco expressed interest in the construction of the power plant and its further operation.
According to the minister, the total amount of the investment under this program is $215 million. He said after the preparatory work that is going to take four months the sides will sign the agreement on the construction of the power unit. "We expect the construction to be over before the end of 2018,' Zakharyan said.
Prime minister Hovik Abrahamyan said the ministry should be consistent so that the agreement has no omissions. He ordered also discussions on this issue with all interested agencies within two to three days.
Renco has already reconstructed the hotel Yerevan in the Armenian capital, built the hotel Congress, the building of the Central Bank in Dilijan and the business center Piazza Grande. -0-
