YEREVAN, August 15. / ARKA /. Armenia’s international airport Zvartnots handled more than 900 thousand passengers and 6,611 tons of cargo in January-July 2012, according to a statement on the official website of the Main Department of Civil Aviation of Armenia.
It said during the reporting period 432,117 people arrived in Armenia through the airport and 472,955 left it . Some 3,044 tons of goods were imported to the country through the air gate and 3,567 tons were exported.
The figures represented a rise from 852.345 people and 5011 tons of cargo handled in the first seven months of last year.
Shirak airport in the second largest town of Gyumri handled more than 39,021 passengers and 29.5 tons of cargo.
Zvartnots and Shirak airports are run by Armenia - International Airports, a company owned by an Argentine citizen of Armenian descent Eduardo Eurnekian. In 2001 the company signed a concesional agreement with the government to run Zvartnots for 30 years. -0-
