YEREVAN, July 30. /ARKA/. Some 1 376.9 billion cubic meters of natural gas and mixtures worth $287.3 million were imported into Armenia in Jan-June 2014 – 9% less than in the same period a year before, the country’s customs service reports on its website.
In Jan-June 2013, some 1 310.4 million tons were imported in the country.
According to the report, 1 182.5 million cubic meters (a 9% year-on-year growth) of gas worth $250.6 million in customs cost (8.8% decline) were received from Russia, and 194.5 million cubic meters (14% decline) of gas worth $36.7 million in customs cost (9.6% decline) from Iran.
Russian gas is imported and distributed in Armenia by Gazprom Armenia (formerly ArmRosgazprom) established in 1997. The company enjoys the sole right for importing and distributing Russian natural gas in Armenia.
The gas pipeline between Armenia and Iran was opened in 2007. The Iranian gas is processed into electric energy, which is sent to Iran – 3KWt-hour for one cubic meter of natural gas. -0---
