YEREVAN, August 8. /ARKA/. Armenia has imported some 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Iran and has exported 6.2 billion KWt-hour of electric energy to Iran in exchange for it since 2007, the year when the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline was opened and the gas-for-electricity program was launched, Armenian Energy and Natural Resources Minister Yervand Zakharyan said Friday at a news conference.
“Some 220 million cubic meters of gas were imported and 670 million KWt-hour of electric energy was exported for six months of this year,” he said.
Armenia sends 3KWt-hour of electric power to Iran for every cubic meter of natural gas received from the neighboring country.
Under the contract, Iran will export 36 billion cubic meters of gas to Armenia for two decades with probable prolongation of the contract by five years and increase of gas volumes to 47 billion cubic meters. -0----
