Agriculture ministry: Armenia's farmland expanded to 318,000 hectares in 2013

YEREVAN, March 5. /ARKA/.  Armenia expanded its farmland by 14 hectares in 2013, compared with 2012, to 318,000 hectares, Deputy Agriculture Minister Samvel Galstyan told journalists on Wednesday.
«In 2010 the country had 283,600 hectares of cultivated land, and it means the area has grown by 34,900 hectares for three years,» he said.

Galstyan also said that targeted usage of farmland reached 71% in 2013, while in 2010 it stood at 63.2%.

The deputy agriculture minister said government support programs had contributed a great deal to the expansion of farmland.

He also said that in 2014 special attention will be paid to extension of areas under crops, and this will increase crop yield. -0----
