ALROSA Russian company has approved creation of joint ventures in for geological prospecting in African countries. In particular, an agreement with the national diamond-extracting company of Angola Endiama E.P. is expected to be prepared by June 2013.
YEREVAN, April 23. /ARKA/. ALROSA Russian company has approved creation of joint ventures in for geological prospecting in African countries. In particular, an agreement with the national diamond-extracting company of Angola Endiama E.P. is expected to be prepared by June 2013.
ALROSA’s board considered it feasible to start a joint venture on a parity basis also in Botswana. The exploration project will be developed by autumn 2013, rbc.ru reported.
In May 2012, the company’s board approved a mid-term strategy for project development in Africa.
It was decided to set up a research department based in St-Petersburg for assessment of new territories.
The strategy also envisages support to high-technology products (roentgenoluminescence separators) manufactured by ALROSA’s subsidiary
“Burevestnik”. This equipment is procured not only by ALROSA itself, but also by diamond extracting companies operating in Africa, including the SAR, Botswana and Lesotho.
ALROSA is a major diamond producer in the world. Its diamond extraction totalled 34.4 million carats in 2012, with sales having amounted to 4.61 billion dollars over the year. -0-
