Armenia and Iran discussed ways to improve transport connectivity
YEREVAN, November 21. /ARKA/. Armenian and Iranian officials discussed Monday ways to improve transport connectivity between the countries at a meeting hosted by Armenia's Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure.
The Iranian officials were led by Mohammad Hossein Soofi, a senior official from the Iranian Departments of Automobile Policy, Licensing and Permits and Road Policy.
Hossein Soofi presented the Iranian side’s approaches and expressed hope that the two countries, by ratifying a number of international documents, will be able to facilitate the entry and exit procedures.
The representatives of the Armenian ministry presented the priorities of the Armenian government in this area, spoke in detail about the strategic importance of the investment project of the North-South highway corridor. During the meeting other issues of interest to the sides were also discussed.
Earlier, Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan said that the trade turnover between Armenia and Iran may reach $1 billion in 2023.
In late October 2023 Armenia and Iran signed today an agreement on the repair of Agarak-Vardanidzor road section (about 21 km) and construction of a road from Vardanidzor to tunnel exit (about 11 km) as part of the 4th tranche of a project to build North-South transport corridor.-0-
