YEREVAN, October 11. /ARKA/. Armenia will expand its presence at the world tourism market, if it diversifies its tourist products, Deputy Economy Minister Ara Petrosyan said on Friday.
He said Armenia is among the world’s popular tourist destinations thanks to the success Armenia has reached in developing new tourist products in recent years. Further movement in this direction, he said, will let us occupy more niches at the global tourism market.
Petrosyan said that Armenia has accomplished a great deal in enhancing its attractiveness thanks to development of promising kinds of tourism, such as winter sport tourism, medical tourism, event tourism, when the stream of tourists to Armenia intensifies because of exhibitions, festivals and other events.
“Now Yerevan enjoys reputation for being a city for having good rest and leisure, and this ensures development to urban tourism,” the deputy minister said.
In June, Armenia came fifth in Globe Spots tourist portal’s attractiveness ranking, which was composed by a group of professional travelers who want to show many other people attractiveness of some spots. Armenia was included in the category of countries with adventures.
According to official statistical reports, Armenia has hosted 321,279 tourists over a period between January and June 2013 – 14.3% growth, compared with the same period a year before, and some 343,263 Armenian tourists traveled abroad for the mentioned period of this year – 13.6% year-on-year growth.
According to the data received from hotels, residents of CIS countries made up 29.7% of the tourists who visited Armenia in Jan-June 2013, EU countries’ residents 36.3% and other countries’ residents 34.0%. ---0---
