YEREVAN, May 13. / ARKA /. In the first quarter of 2014 Armenia imported 937.6 million cubic meters of natural gas and mixtures worth $204 million, which was 2.1 % less than in the same period last year, the Customs Service said in a statement.
Russia accounted for 845.3 million cubic meters of imported gas (up 13.2 %) with customs value of $186.6 million (up 1.2%). The rest of natural gas - 92.4 million cubic meters (down 31.1%) was imported from Iran. Its customs value was f $17.4 million (down 27.7%).
Natural gas is shipped to Armenia by Russian-owned Gazprom Armenia operator established in December 1997 (previously it was called ArmRosGazprom).
Gazprom Armenia is engaged in the transportation, storage, distribution and sale of natural gas, reconstruction and expansion of the gas transmission system and underground gas storage facilities.
The gas pipeline between Iran and Armenia was commissioned in 2007.
The Iranian gas is converted into electricity for shipping back to Iran. In return for one cubic meter of gas Armenia ships to Iran 3 kWh of electricity. -0-
