Armenia not included in EU’s blacklist of tax havens

YEREVAN, December 5. /ARKA/. Armenia is not included in a blacklist of tax havens European Union finance ministers adopted on Tuesday, which includes 17 extra-EU jurisdictions seen as not cooperative on tax matters, Reuters reported quoting French finance minister Bruno Le Maire as saying.

He  said American Samoa, Bahrain, Barbados, Grenada, Guam, South Korea, Macau, Marshall Islands, Mongolia, Namibia, Palau, Panama, Saint Lucia, Samoa, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia and United Arab Emirates are the countries listed.

Le Maire said that other 47 jurisdictions are included in a public “gray” list of countries that are currently not compliant with EU standards but have committed to change their tax rules.

The Bloomberg news agency reported earlier that the European Union might include Armenia on a blacklist of tax havens along with Panama, Tunisia, Turkey, the Marshall Islands and tens of other countries.

In an interview with ARKA news agency Nairuhi Avetisyan, the head of a department on international tax and customs relations at the ministry of finance, said Armenia has been in active dialogue with the experts of the Code of Conduct from the European Union's Council, providing them with exhaustive answers to all their questions. She also said there were realistic deadlines for Armenia to bring all existing inconsistencies in line with the standards of the Code of Conduct, if necessary.  -0-
