Armenia’s anti-monopoly commission monitors egg market as Easter approaches
YEREVAN, February 27. /ARKA/. Armenia’s state commission for economic competition is monitoring the egg market to prevent artificial price increases ahead of the Easter (March 31), senior specialist of the commission’s analysis department Manuk Michaelyan said as quoted by Armnews TV channel.
A monitoring group of the country’s State Commission for Economic Competition recorded some price changes in the egg market. For instance, a box of 10 eggs from Lusakert poultry farm costs now 680 drams instead of the previous 660 drams. Eggs produced by Arzni poultry are sold at 66 drams each, compared to 64 drams before. A 30psc tray of eggs from Yerevan poultry farm costs 1,920 drams instead of the previous 1,860drams.
“Certain changes may be caused by increased global prices for poultry feed, but the market situation is under control. The commission will work hard to prevent any artificial rise in egg prices”, Michaelyan said.
Chairman of Armenia’s Union of Poultry Farmers Sergey Stepanyan said that 70% of the egg production cost price is paid for the feed. In particular, the price of corn went up by 62%, that of soya beans by 78, wheat price rose by 42%, he said.
“The egg prices are determined in the market and artificial interference is inadmissible”, Stepanyan said. –0--
