YEREVAN, February 21. /ARKA/. Armenia's Commission for Protection of Economic Competition intends to tighten grip upon consolidation of large companies, Artak Shaboyan, the head of the commission, said on Friday.
He told journalists that this will be among the agency's top-priority focuses this year. «If large companies acquire major shares in other organizations or merge, we will scrutinize things, and if we find that consolidation affects market competition, we'll prohibit such consolidations,» he said.
Shaboyan said SAS, Nor Zovk, Evrika and Yerevan City chains of supermarkets are under intense scrutiny now.
«Supermarkets enjoy competition advantages, and, taking this into account, we have declared some large supermarkets dominating the market and we will monitor their conduct,» he said. -0---
