Armenia’s antitrust agency to tighten grip on high concentration markets

YEREVAN, December 25. /АРКА/. Armenian Commission for Protection of Economic Competition will tighten its grip on high concentration markets, Artak Shaboyan, the head of the commission, said Wednesday at a news conference.

“In 2014 the commission will work also in other directions, including new, but we still don't want to reveal them to secure effectiveness of our work,” he said.

In his words, very often companies breach market rules because of insufficient knowledge of the law.

“In this context, we also expect closer cooperation with other government agencies in 2014,” Shaboyan added.

The fines imposed by the commission on companies this year total AMD 132 million.

According to the commission's figures release earlier, in 2012 it imposed fines totaling about AMD 244m million – 34% less than in 2011.  ($1 – AMD 405.28). --0---
