YEREVAN, February 5. / ARKA /. Armenia’s business activity index in the 4th quarter of 2013 dropped by 4.8 points from the previous quarter to 50.1, the Central Bank of Armenia said. It said when compared to 2012 4th quarter this figure was down by 12 points. According to the regulator, one of the major causes of the drop was a 3.4 point fall in industry to 52.8.
In construction sector the business activity index dropped by 4.1 points to 49.2, in trade sector it declined by 5.4 points to 51.1 and in the service sector it downed by 6.9 points to 46.7.
Furthermore, according to the Central Bank, the business environment index in the reporting period fell by 3 points to 50.9. The highest index of business environment was reported by the industry - 52.5, however it was 3.7 points down from the previous quarter.
Business environment index is measured by averaged assessments of the organizations related to economic situation and risks. Since early 2005, the Central Bank has been conducting quarterly surveys among non-financial, financial organizations and households to measure how the present economic situation and expectations change from a previous period. -0-
