Armenia’s economic activity in 2012 august advances 8 percent from year earlier

YEREVAN, October 2 / ARKA /. Armenia’s economic activity in 2012 August advanced by 8 percent if compared to August 2011, the National Statistical Service (ArmStat) reported, saying also that the economic activity index in January-August 2012, when compared with January-August 2011, saw an 8.3% advancement.

According to ArmStat, construction in 2012 August dropped by 3.8 percent from the same month in 2011, although the sector grew by 12.3 percent this August from the previous month to more than 39.6 billion drams.

The industrial output in August 2012 was over 93.5 billion drams, an increase of 8.7 percent compared to August 2011, but it was 1.7 percent down from the previous month.

According to ArmStat, in the reporting period the agricultural output grew by 12.3% from 2011 August to 140.6 billion drams. Also in August 2012, the volume of services increased by 7.9% compared to the same period in 2011, amounting to about 84.6 billion drams. The government projection of this year’s GDP is 4.2%.
