Armenia’s government determined to step up cooperation with IFC: PM

Armenia’s government will continue fostering cooperation with International Finance Corporation (IFC), Armenia’s Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said Tuesday at the meeting with IFC Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Tomasz Telma.

YEREVAN, March 27. /ARKA/. Armenia’s government will continue fostering cooperation with International Finance Corporation (IFC), Armenia’s Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said Tuesday at the meeting with IFC Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Tomasz Telma. 

Sargsyan expressed his gratitude to Telma for effective cooperation and said Armenia improved its positions in Doing Business- 2012 annual rating appearing at the 55th place instead of the previous 61st in 2011 due to collaboration with IFC. 

“The government prioritizes business environment improvement and average social class formation. From this angle we attach great importance to IFC activity directed to boosting the private sector,” he said. 

In his turn, Telma expressed satisfaction with high level of bilateral cooperation and underscored the importance of implementing joint projects in different spheres.

At the meeting the sides also discussed issues related to securities market development in Armenia, and joint programs in energy and improvement of investment climate, enhancement of food security, tax system as well as export and import facilitation measures. 

Armenia became a member of IFC, that is included into World Bank’s Group, in 1995. IFC invested $202 million in Armenia’s economy various sectors over 17 years of its activity in the republic. —0-
