Armenia’s jewelry production in first eight months up 5.4 percent to 8.6 billion drams

YEREVAN, October 29. / ARKA /. Jewelry production in Armenia in the first eight months of 2012 saw a 5.4% growth when compared to the same period last year amounting to 8.63 billion drams, the National Statistical Service of Armenia told ARKA.

It said in 2012 August 529.6 million drams worth jewelry items were produced, by 65.8% less than in 2011 August and by 69.7% less than in July 2012.

According to the ministry of economy, jewelry production in Armenia in the first half of 2012 increased by 17.3% compared to the same period last year to 5.57 billion drams.

First six months’ sales totaled 5.43 billion drams, a growth of 15.5% compared to the same period last year, of which 5.1 billion drams goods were sold outside the country (a year-on-year growth of 14.7%). The ministry said also 31 companies were involved in jewelry production which employed 900 people.

The ministry said also raw diamond processing in the first six months of this year amounted to 3.1 billion drams, growing by 4.1% from a year before, with sales totaling 3.62 billion drams (up 21.7%). All diamonds were sold outside Armenia.

Six companies were involved in diamond cutting in the first six months with a total staff of 400 people. ($ 1 - 405.3 drams).  -0-
