Armenia’s PM indicates new violations in construction and personal responsibility for officials

YEREVAN, October 10. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan announced Wednesday on revealing flagrant violations related to embezzlement of budget funds in urban planning.

“Control Service of Prime Minister, Ministers of Urban Development and Finance of Armenia were instructed to continue monitoring the efficiency of public funds’ expenditures in this sphere. Unfortunately, I must state that we continue revealing violations, which are shocking” he said.

He clarified that he visited Shirak region a few days ago, where 270 million drams from budget funds were allocated for a school’s complete reconstruction in Mets Mantash village.

“According to the preliminary data, we found out that of them nearly 2 million have already been spent,” he said adding that the same situation was detected in school # 5 in Masis town.

According to Sargsyan, these cases have already been submitted to Prosecutor’s Office, and the government will carefully monitor the situation making sure all the guilty parties are punished.

“Unfortunately, I have to admit that the case with the National Library was not the only one. It is even more regrettable that the violations were revealed in the sphere of school reconstruction, which is one of our priorities,” he noted.

PM instructed the ministers to review the annual report on internal audit of Ministry of Finance, which demonstrates the inaccuracies in the spheres, and warn the heads of their administrations and departments that they will carry personal responsibility for the violations.

“Up to these days we restricted ourselves with instructions, now those who made these violations, will be personally responsible for that,” he said.

Former head of Construction Policy at Ministry of Urban Development of Armenia Gor Kamalyan was detained on September 28 on the basis of embezzlement of property during reconstruction of the National Library of Armenia. -0-
