YEREVAN, February 6. / ARKA /. Armenian economy minister Vahram Avanesyan said today Yerevan will ask soon the Customs Union to allow it to apply the current, lower customs duties on a long list of goods imported from other than Customs Union member countries when it becomes a member of the Russia-led trade bloc.
He said the list will be finalized tomorrow and submitted to the Customs Union’s executive body. The fact is that Customs Union members apply higher duties on these goods than Armenia.
Speaking to reporters after the Cabinet session the minister the list will include products, medicines and other commodities that are extremely important for the Armenian economy and its manufacturing companies.
According to him, Customs Union applies higher customs duties on about 60 % of some 11,000 kinds of products imported to Armenia, but he added that ‘it does not mean a rise in price of all these goods.’
He noted that there are goods for which customs duties will be revised –they are goods imported from countries with which Armenia has free trade agreements – they are CIS countries and Georgia, and after Armenia’s accession to the Customs Union their number will increase at the expense of countries that have free trade agreements with the trade bloc.
"In fact, zero customs duties on goods imported from these countries will remain in force. In addition, only 10-12 percent of all goods from this list are imported to Armenia, «said Avanesyan. -0-
