Armenian authorities to take stock of all cattle in the country

YEREVAN, March 14. / ARKA /. The authorities in Armenia will take stock of the entire cattle tagging, registering and giving passports to each animal, the government said.

A pilot project to take stock of the cattle was made in Vayots Dzor region in late 2012 at the order of prime minister Tigran Sargsyan. The results were used to create ANI PAS system enabling to analyze and store all relating data. In that year some 23,098 cows were registered in that region.

The government said acting on a proposal by the ministry of agriculture it decided to extend the project across the country. The authorities will purchase all required equipment first and appoint responsible veterinaries in each community.

The move is supposed to make movement of cattle more effective and predictable and improve measures to ensure they are healthy. -0-
