YEREVAN , September 30. / ARKA /. A deputy Armenian minister of agriculture Samvel Galstian said to a news conference today that farmers across the country are expected to gather a total of 865,000 metric tons of vegetables, melons and gourds, by around 15,000 metric tons more than in 2012.
He said as of September 30 the farmers have gathered 750,000 tons. He specified that the output of melons and gourds is expected to reach 210,000 tons, up from 205,000 tons last year.
According to him, the total output of potato is expected to be 660,000 tons, up from 647,000 tons last year. He said as of September 30 tomato output stood at 230,000 tons compared to 265,000 tons for the same period last year.
By September 27 local canneries were said to have purchased 13,324 tons against 26.229 tons last year. He blamed the decline on hailstorms that damaged the crop in May. -0-
