Armenian government extends licenses of two water operators

YEREVAN, December 5. / ARKA /. The Armenian government has extended today the concessional licenses of a French and a German water operators until 31 May 2016. The head of the State Water Committee Andranik Andreasyan said the decision applies to four water supplying companies in Yerevan and provinces. 

They are the Armenian Water and Sewerage company (a subsidiary of French Saur SAS) that operates in seven regions, as well as Shirak Water Canal,  Lori Water Canal and Nor Akunk, working respectively in Shirak , Lori and Armavir regions. 

These companies are managed by a consortium of German MVV Decon GmbH, MVV Energi AG and Armenian AEG Service. He said the concessional management licenses of these companies expire at the end of 2013.

He said the government expects these two operators to use effectively the 2.5 years to improve the efficiency of water management.

He said the financial and technical audit of these companies will be funded by grants from German bank KfW (2.5 million euros) and the Investment Program of the European Neighborhood Policy (3 million euros).  -0-
