YEREVAN, August 5. /ARKA/. Armenian government will support South Caucasus Railway CJSC in the efforts to modernize the railway infrastructure, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said in his congratulatory message on the occasion of Railwayman Day.

“Our priority task is to modernize and renovate the railroad infrastructure as well as to improve the service quality. We are constantly working in this direction, and I believe SCR will be able to solve these issues with our support,” Mr. Sargsyan said in a statement.

Each of us contributed a lot into this sector which is very important for our country, he added.

On his side, Deputy Speaker of Armenian parliament Hermine Nagdalyan, who was present at the event dedicated to Railwayman Day, thanked the veterans for their decent contribution into the development of the country and railway operation on difficult for the country days, when the railroad was a “road of life” for the Armenian nation.

“Railroad is not just a road, trains and rails for Armenia. It is the so-called locomotive of our economy, one of a few ways of communication with the foreign countries under the blockade from some neighbors,” she added.

South Caucasus Railways, a 100-percent subsidiary of Russian Railways, runs Armenian Railway.  Armenian Railways was handed over to the South Caucasus Railways on February 13, 2008 for 30-year concession management with a right to prolong the management term for other 10 years. -0-
