Armenian pharmaceutical companies report 33 percent surge in medications production

YEREVAN, December 10. / ARKA /. Armenian pharmaceutical companies produced 4.16 billion drams worth medicines in the first 10 months, a 33.2 % increase from the same period last year, deputy economy minister Tigran Harutyunyan said yesterday at a medical gathering in Yerevan.

He said during the same period they exported 2.19 billion drams worth medications, a 34.5 % increase from the year before.

Health minister Derenik Dumanyan said a number of pharmaceutical companies were working to get Good Manufacturing Practice certificates. He said this is a complicated procedure requiring substantial investment.

Head of USAID Yerevan office, Karen Hilliard, said pharmaceutical development will boost business development.

She added that USAID was pleased to promote pharmaceutical programs in Armenia because they help create new jobs. The gathering was attended by prime minister Tigran Sargsyan. -0-
