YEREVAN, August 20. /ARKA/. Students from vulnerable families will be included on Paros social support list for 50-100% discounts on their tuition fees as from September 1, Armenia’s minister of education and science Armen Ashotyan told reporters.
The minister says he will further clarify the new discounts later.
According to the ministry, there are some 2,500 students of various Armenian higher schools included on Paros list.
Apart from this, two related bills are currently under discussion in the country, one of them empowering the government to set a maximum allowable tuition fee. The bill will be submitted to the National Assembly during the fall examinations, the minister said.
The second bill envisages establishing vulnerable student groups entitled to discounts, Ashotyan said.
The minister said the current legislation is not complete, which leads to biased decisions by higher schools.
Tuition fee for 2013/14 academic year in five state-funded higher schools rose by 80-200,000 drams (about $200-500), which gave rise to protests among Armenian students.–0—
