Energy supply restrictions beyond Bibin’s competence – Armenian minister of energy
YEREVAN, June 18. /ARKA/. General director of the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) Yevgeniy Bibin is not authorized to restrict energy supplies in the country, Armenia’s minister of energy and natural resources Yervand Zakharyan said in his interview to Zhoghovurd (People) newspaper, in commenting Bibin’s recent letter to the Public Service Regulatory Commission.

Yesterday, the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) set new electricity tariffs for the population, having raised the price by 6.93 drams (about 0.015 dollars) to 48.78 drams (about 0.1 dollars) for daytime consumption and to 38.78 drams (about 0.08 dollars) per kilowatt-hour at nights, as compared to the increase of 17.08 drams (about 0.036 dollars) asked for in ENA’s bid.

On Tuesday Bibin sent a letter to the head of PSRC saying if the tariff was increased by 6.93 drams only, the company would fail to ensure the quality standards and the reliability of supplies, as well as the investments required to raise the service level.

The newspaper says Zakharyan has not gone through the letter himself.

“I cannot say anything as I do not know the content of the letter, honestly. Bibin cannot avoid supplying electricity, as it is beyond his competence,” the minister told the newspaper. –0--
