YEREVAN, April 11. / ARKA /. In 2015 the European Union will provide Armenia with about 2 million euros to modernize its food safety laboratories, Abraham Bakhchagulyan, head of the State Food Safety Service, an affiliation of the Ministry of Agriculture, said today.
"According to international and local experts, although our laboratory facilities comply with international standards, we need to expand them and install new equipment," he said at a meeting of the Coordinating Council on Plant Quarantine of the CIS countries in Yerevan today.
He said the three-year program calls, in addition to acquisition of new equipment, also for organization of trainings for local professionals.
The EU provides assistance to Armenia under a program designed to strengthen laboratory capacities for food safety, implemented by the Enterprise Development and Market Competitiveness program, financed by USAID. -0-
