YEREVAN, September 2. /ARKA/. Food prices dropped by 1.1% in Armenia in August against July mainly due to reduction in prices for vegetables, potatoes, fruits and sugar by 10.7-2.6% on average, ArmStat reported.
In the period, prices for the following foodstuffs went down – for egg-plants by 68.6%, for tomatoes by 33.6%, green pepper by 31.9%, cabbage by 20.2%, garlic by 19.4%, cucumber by 14.6%, beats by 12%, carrots by 11.6%, onions by 2.9%, haricots by 0.9% and mushrooms by 0.4%. Prices for potatoes and green onions rose by 1.8% and 20.3% respectively. In the reporting period, vegetable and potato prices dropped by 15.3-7.1% on average in nine cities of Armenia. The price reduction was 11.8% in the capital in August compared to July.
The 5.9% reduction in fruit prices recorded in July was mainly due to reduction in prices for peaches (by45.9%), melons (26.5%), grapes (19.2%), pears (16.9%), plums (10.5%), water-melons (9.8%), strawberries (9.4%) and apples (9%). The price reduction was 5.9% in the capital in the period.
Sugar prices dropped by 2.6% in Armenia in August.
Prices for meat products rose by 0.2% in the period mainly due to rise in prices for poultry (0.3%), for chicken hocks (0.3%), pork (0.9%). Mutton prices decreased by 1.6%. Beef prices remained unchanged in August. Prices for fish products rose by 0.4% in August against the month before. Egg prices went 1.2% up.
In August a 0.3% increase was recorded in prices for bakery goods, as compared to July. Bread prices rose by 0.3-3.6% on average in the reporting period in six towns of Armenia. The increase was 0.4% in the capital in August compared to July.
On average, other foodstuff prices rose by 2.2% in the country in August. Salt prices rose by 6.3% in August against July and by 13.8% in July-August.–0--
