French expert says pink and white wines are best in Armenia

YEREVAN, July 30./ ARKA/. International Wine Assembly member Matthieu Besson says white and pink wines are best in Armenia.

“What refers to red wines, I can say that they are really tasty but they do not have long extract,” Besson said in the interview with ARKA agency.

He added that Armenian winemakers are working now on improving red wine extract as well as grow the European varieties of grapes. He also added Armenian wines are popular today in French and European markets.

Besson clarified that 10 years ago Armenian wines were exported to France, however the production quality didn’t meet some specific criteria.

“Armenian brandy is not also very popular with French consumers,” Bessone said.

According to him, the most popular cognacs in France are Lois 13, Hennessy and Rémy Martin.

On his side, general consultant of the company Jean-Baptiste Soulat noted that Armenia has all chances to export its wines to the global market.

According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia in January-May of 2012 wine production shrank by 40.1% to 1597,3 thousand liters. According to Ministry of Agriculture, grape harvest totaled in nearly 200,000 tons in 2011. E.O.—0--
