YEREVAN, January 30. / ARKA /. The Armenian government has approved today a set of amendments to the “Law on restoration and protection of Lake Sevan’s ecosystem," permitting thereby to increase the volume of water pumped out from the lake for irrigation purposes until 2019.
Head of the State Water Committee, Andranik Andreasyan, said the volume of water is to be increased from the current 170 million to 240 million cubic meters per year.
"The limit for each year will be set depending on reserve of water in the irrigation system of the Ararat valley,” he said.
According to him, the government plans to build a series of reservoirs by 2019 to solve the problem. -0-
