YEREVAN, October 23. /ARKA/. Liberalization of aviation in Armenia will speed up economic growth here driving it one to two percent up, Armenian Economy Minister Vahram Avanesyan said Wednesday at the Cabinet’s session which approved a program of actions to develop air traffic.
He said that growth will be ensured by development of tourism industry and related services, since liberalization of aviation will lead to improvement of air transportation quality and decrease in air ticket prices.
Avanesyan stressed that the liberalization implies removal of all the obstacles for local and foreign air carriers.
“Any company that meets certain technical standards can operate flights,” he said. “There will be no restrictions for frequency of flights, for sizes or models of aircrafts and destinations.”
The minister also stressed that tenders will be held to choose air companies.
In July, the Armenian government ordered a careful study of Armenia’s air traffic to McKinsey & Company to develop a program of measures based on the results of the study. ---0----
