Local governance improvement program signed between Armenian ministry and SDCA
YEREVAN, July 10. /ARKA/. Armenia’s ministry of territorial administration and the Swiss Development and Cooperation Agency (SDCA) signed a new four-year program on local governance improvement worth $5.7 million, a joint press release of the ministry and the SDCA says.
The aim of the program is to assist in raising the working efficiency and the level of reporting by local governments, according to the report.
The SDCA is to consolidate its efforts with the Council of Europe, the German Society for International Cooperation, the UNDP, Armenia’s Social Investment Fund for supporting the government and the local communities in a local governance reform.
As part of the program, the local communities will receive technical assistance to obtain professional skills for strengthening and decentralizing the local governance system. This, in turn, will provide better quality of public services and accessibility of capital investments, according to the report.
Additional ‘single-window’ offices will be opened and communal capacities will be strengthened in involving municipal funds for development. The program will focus on Siunik and Vayots-Dzor regions where the SDCA has been supporting the economic development since long ago. –0—
