No contras between Armenia’s CSTO membership and NATO cooperation- Russian expert

YEREVAN, October 15. /ARKA/. There are no contradictions between Armenia’s membership to Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and cooperation with NATO, an expert at Russian Political Science center “North-South” Yulia Yakusheva said at the second Armenian-Russian interregional forum on Saturday.

In Armenia’s military doctrine, NATO and CSTO are referred to as factors reducing threats to military security, according to her.

“Yerevan stresses mechanisms of CSTO as strategic support for its security. However, the flexible policy towards NATO, readiness to cooperate with it closely, is dictated by non-stability in regional security, and Diaspora’s influence,” she said.

Thus, there are opportunities for cooperating with both, CSTO and NATO, for Armenia ensuring regional security in South Caucasus, she added. -0-
