YEREVAN, January 20. / ARKA /. A senior official of the Armenian ministry of agriculture warned today that prices of dairy products may rise very soon. According to Ashot Hovhannisyan, head of the veterinary department of the ministry of agriculture, global prices of dry milk rose by 50 percent from March to December 2013.
"We are part of the global economy and the global rise in prices of dairy products is affecting also our market,” he said.
Another factor that may push up the prices is higher prices of gas and electricity effective from last July.
Hovhannisyan refrained from making specific predictions about new prices, adding that they would not exceed the increase in prices for raw milk at the world market.
The only possible way to avoid price increases for dairy products in Armenia is to increase their production, he said.
According to the ministry of agriculture, milk production last year increased by 30 tons from 2012 to 658,000 tons. -0-
