PSRC denies allegations that part of gas price paid by Armenian consumers used to maintain ARG resort house

YEREVAN, February 5. / ARKA /. Head of Armenia’s Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) Robert Nazaryan has brushed off allegations that part of the price paid by Armenian natural gas consumers is used to maintain a resort house run by Armenia’s Russian-owned national has distribution company ArmRosGazprom (ARG).

Nazaryan was invited to parliament to explain why Armenian households pay $380 per one thousand cubic meters of gas while ARG buys it at $180.

Nazaryan said the PSRC had cut the company’s latest application for representation expenses from 120 million drams to 18 million.

‘Allegations that the company spends hundreds of thousands of USD on representation expenses are inconsistent with the realty,’ he told the lawmakers. In comments on high salaries of ARG staff he said they are comparable with median salaries of private companies.

Russia’s Gazprom formally completed the purchase of the 20 percent stake in ARG)held by the Armenian government becoming the full owner of the utility. The deal, signed on January 17 in Yerevan was completed on January 21. -0-
