YEREVAN, December 5. /ARKA/. Women constitute about 10% of all employers in Armenia, head of the Union of Employers of Armenia Gagik Makaryan told ARKA Thursday. The monitoring was carried out in March-October 2013.
The previous monitoring in 2009 showed the share of women entrepreneurs was too low – at 0.3-0.4%, Makaryan said at the second national conference on female entrepreneurship. Percentage of individual female entrepreneurs is even higher – about 25%, he added.
But, Makaryan said, the existing potential is much higher.
Main fields where women do business in Armenia are cosmetology, arrangement of cocktail parties, design centers, tour agencies and food industry, sweets production in particular.
“Women are mainly engaged in small and medium-sized businesses in Armenia and very little in major businesses”, he said.
