Sharp warming in Armenia may cause floods : Agriculture Ministry
YEREVAN, March 14. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan convened Wednesday an emergency meeting over the expected serious warming in the republic, the Agriculture Ministry said.
According to the source, the warming may cause floods.
Warm air rising over North Africa will flow in the direction of Armenia on March 15-17. As a result, the temperature in the republic will rise by 10-12 degrees, and the precipitation on March 18 will accelerate snow melting.
The Ministry said as a result the water level in rivers can raise causing floods.
Karapetyan appealed to the Bureau for Implementation of Agricultural Programs to undertake all the necessary measures to finish anti-mudflow works prematurely.
The Minister also instructed the local centers for agricultural support to inform the rural administrations and farmers about the threats. -0-
