YEREVAN, September 27. /ARKA/. The South Caucasus Railway closed joint stock company clarified Thursday the protests of some employees of Hrazdan station.
The incident was caused by actions of the head of the station Stepanyan A.N. who will be transferred to another post due to the fatal accident of September the 1st, says the report.
At 15:00 on September 1 a fatal accident occurred at Hrazdan station. Station duty officer Khachatryan left his post and, together with his colleague Sirunyan, was checking the brakes of his personal car at the station yard. Afterwards Sirunyan took to the wheel and hit Khachatryan who was standing in front of the car. Kachatryan bashed his head against asphalt, fell unconscious and later died.
After check-ups at the station the administration found out the level of labor protection and adherence to safety standards is insufficient. Yet, Stepanyan was offered another post due to his long-year work in rail infrastructures, according to the report.
As to protesters’ demand for salary increase the company says average monthly salary in South Caucasus Railway cjsc is 195,000 drams, as compared to an average of 149,725 drams in the country. An 11% increase in wages was recorded in August 2013, compared to the same month of 2012. At the same time, work volume reduced by more than 30%, according to the report.
“Hence, the demand of the committed part of the station staff are not justified and are targeted only at attracting attention”, says the report.
South Caucasus Railway cjsc is a 100% subsidiary of Russian Railways open joint stock company that is operating Armenian railways under a 30-year concession contract signed in 2008. The contract can be extended for another 10 years. –0—
