YEREVAN, October 15. /ARKA/. Representatives of small and mid-scale businesses in Armenia use professional services and innovations very rarely, Artashes Shaboyan, a senior analyst of Ameria group of companies, told journalists on Tuesday.
“Only 31% of the surveyed SME representatives used professional services in the recent two years,” he said. “Accountant and audit services are more demanded than other services – 16% and 7% respectively, and this is due to financial state of companies and the fact that they are not always presenting final results.”
Market studies, development of business plans and management consulting (6%) are demanded mainly by small businessmen.
Shaboyan said that unlike Russian companies, Armenian companies are very sluggish in introducing innovative solutions.
In particular, only 14% of small and medium entrepreneurs invest money in innovations in industry, 13% in marketing and 6% in making new products for the domestic market.
Shaboyan said that the results of this study contradict the World Bank’s similar market analysis, which says that about 67% of companies have released innovative products for the last three years, and about 40% apply license technologies.
He said that this survey has revealed nothing like that – only 6% of respondents said they have introduced innovations for new products the last year, and only 14% said they have introduced industrial innovations.
Shaboyan also said that Armenian entrepreneurs attach no importance to consulting services and innovations are skeptical about them. Although entrepreneurs admit that these services speed up development, but they expect little benefit from them.
“Companies in Armenia have not yet reached the level letting them appreciate consulting services, though many already understand, but can’t afford to use them,” Shaboyan said.
The study was conducted in May- June 2013 embracing 1,003 small and medium businesses, of which 655 in Yerevan, 144 - in Gyumri, 152 - in Vanadzor, and 52 – in Dilijan. Some 74.4% of the surveyed companies are micro-businesses, 20.2 % - small, 5.1 % - medium businesses. Of these, 47.6 % are engaged in trade, 34.4 % - in services, 15.5 % - in industry, and 2.2% - in construction.
