YEREVAN, April 16. / ARKA /. Total greenhouse gas emissions in Armenia are within the normal range – two metric tons per capita, down from the maximum allowable 6 tons per one person, nature protection minister Aramais Grigoryan told during a Cabinet session today.
The Armenian government on Thursday amended its earlier decisions made in connection with changes in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which require that governments submit the summary of national actions and documents aimed at the implementation of the Convention.
"We have no obligations and Armenia is in the favorable position meeting the specified quota for greenhouse gas emissions," said Grigoryan.
Armenia signed the UN Framework Convention for Climate Change in 1992 and ratified it in 1993.
According to it, Armenia should submit annual progress report which should include a national inventory of greenhouse gas emissions.
The report should also contain information on national actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in view of the country’s development priorities, objectives, opportunities and needs. -0-
