USA to provide Armenia with additional $1 million assistance for taking stock of agricultural assets
YEREVAN, September 18. / ARKA /. The U.S. will provide Armenia with $1 million assistance for taking stock of agricultural assets, the head of the USAID Yerevan office, Karen Hilliard, said Wednesday at a meeting with Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.
The government press office quoted Karen Hilliard as saying that during their previous meeting the prime minister had asked the U.S. government for additional assistance for taking stock of agricultural assets. She said the U.S. government acceded to this request.
During the meeting, which was attended also by U.S. ambassador to Armenia John Heffern , the sides discussed the prospects of the Armenian- American relations.
The massive project is due to start 2014. Its goal is to collect information on fixed and current agricultural assets and also human resources.
Given the importance of this project, the World Bank had provided a $200,000 grant to assist the government in its preparation. The EU Twining, as well as the U.S. Department of Agriculture had also offered assistance. UN member states are required to take stock of their agricultural assets at least once every 10 years. -0-
