YEREVAN, January 31. /ARKA/. USAID will allocate $8 million for PRP and ARDI rural development programs in Armenia, PRP program director Anush Aslanyan told reporters Friday.
The joint programs by USAID and Armenia’s National Center for Small and Medium Enterprises are based on initiatives from Armenian and US governments to meet the challenges Armenian villages face today, Aslanyan said.
The PRP program director also said the programs to be implemented in about 150 village communities of Armenia during five years aim at improving business environment, promoting competition, developing SME and infrastructures.
According to US Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern the programs will facilitate economic development in general. Heffern said the embassy is ready to support implementation of the programs.
Armenia’s first deputy minister of economy Karine Miasyan, in her turn, expressed confidence the programs will help improve business environment in rural communities and open jobs for villagers.
“These programs will be implemented in several directions and can provide a long-term positive effect”, she said. –0—
