The e Russian state-owned diamond company Alrosa said its workers found a unique diamond on October 21 weighing 888.15 carats. The diamond is opaque, of greenish-gray color. Its dimensions are 58h+8+36 millimeters.

YEREVAN, October 24. / ARKA /. The e Russian state-owned diamond company Alrosa said its workers found a unique diamond on October 21 weighing 888.15 carats. The diamond is opaque, of greenish-gray color. Its dimensions are 58h+8+36 millimeters, according to RIA Novosti.

Alrosa said crystals of this size are a unique natural phenomena. It is the fourth largest diamond ever found in Russia by weight. Since this crystal will not be used in jewelry it will hardly be given a specific name and will be kept in the company.

ALROSA is Russia’s largest diamond producer, accounting for about 30% of world production and 94% of all diamonds in Russia. In 2011, Alrosa produced 34.6 million carats of diamonds (up 1%). Extraction is made from six open pits, three underground mines and a number of placer deposits. 2011 sales of the company amounted to $4.45 billion. -0-
