Upper Lars may be closed for next two weeks due to mudslide
YEREVAN, May 19. /ARKA/. Crossing the Russian-Georgian border through Upper Lars blocked by a mudslide in the Georgian territory, may be impossible for the next two weeks, RIA Novosti says referring to the emergency service of Northern Ossetia, Novosti-Armenia reported.
On Saturday morning a huge mudslide mixed with ice blocked the road linking Russia with South Caucasus and Terek river threatening flood misery for several settlements in Northern Ossetia. On Saturday night reports said the water found a natural outflow, and the level started dropping.
About 70 vehicles, mostly heavy haulers, got stuck at the border with Georgia to transit via Armenia and Azerbaijan. Vladikavkaz city administration accommodated drivers in a former kids’ camp near Chmi village and provided hot meals to them. –0--
